All Change

Posted by tgs on July 4th, 2006

Well it’s been a while and no post - blog-rot-a-licious. I would generally follow up a comment like that with the excuse that nothing much is happening but in actual fact I’ve been too dam busy!!

We have sold the house and bought a wee cottage up in the country side - well country side-ish - its definitely rural but still near enough to the essential forms of civilisation such as pub’s and some take-aways. Oh yeah it has broadband as well, but this does mean going back to bloody ADSL - which is gonna be a huge shock to the system after this 10mb/s cable connection. We don’t move until the end of August which is good really as we have done naff all in the way of packing or preparing.

Oh yeah I started my new job as well - working for a GP’s surgery, its good - its just a shame that its only a temporary contract to cover maternity leave but I will enjoy it while I can. The hours are Monday to Friday 0800hrs to 1600hrs which is nice as it still gives a good bit of time to relax and geek out in the evenings.

On the toy front I’m going to be borrowing a macbook pro from a mate so I can test drive it before deciding to stump up for that or a new ThinkPad. Don’t get me wrong I love my mac and osX is lovely but I kinda miss the tinkering with Linux - I know I need not make an absolute choice but I know ThinkPad and trust them - so we shall see how the macbook pro run goes.

Oh dear - silly mega-apple corp looks like it continues to do its best to shoot itself in the foot, maybe new thinkpad here i come! (main site here)

Cardiac Arrest

Posted by tgs on April 5th, 2006

Boy oh boy.

Well I have just finished watching the downloads of Cardiac Arrest that I leeched some time ago and my god, it is still fantastic - its been years since I have seen any of it and I would still rate it up there as one of (if not the best) drama’s of (not so) recent years. There were only three series of it and Helen Baxendale (who plays the delicious Claire Maitland) left to do other things because she was afraid of becoming typecast - so they pulled the plug on the series, a shame really because most of it still easily shines today.

On a different note I thought I would draw your attention to the best Freedom of Information (Scotland) decission i have seen (pdf version here). This takes the biscuit, please take the five minuites to read through all of it.

3 Things

Posted by tgs on March 8th, 2006

So feeling some pent up rage and anger i decide to blog about the current three things that piss me off.

  1. Recruitment Agencies - So some company decides to make money from people that don’t have a job. How do they do this?? By getting unemployed folk a shitty job working for a soulless company on minimum wage - but hang on that means that recruitment companies make money from other people working. Which sucks. Plus if you ever see any job adverts to actually be one of these recruitment people then you will notice that they demand “sales experience” - basically slimy friggin’ sales scum. So a note to all companies out there that use agencies - please stop, invest a little into your own HR department, pay the staff a decent wage and watch these exploiting arse holes disappear into a puff of rancid smoke.
  2. POPular music - Was reading a book whilst Cait’s watched “Top of The Pops” and came to conclusion that piracy is good. These talentless wankers deserve no pay packet for the shite they drivel out onto our mass media. Plus look at it this way if an artist wants to do what they do then maybe they shouldn’t be paid megabucks for doing it. I mean they would still earn a reasonable living doing what they do - but why should they earn millions and squid-zillions for a job that has them humming a little ditty and then assaulting out ear’s with it. Plus if we get rid of POP music then we get rid of virgin megastores and HMV and therefore reduce twat ned problem by eliminating a regular haunt.
  3. Cigarettes - Cos i cant stop smoking them and man do i really want to.

The Apprentice and Stuff

Posted by tgs on February 22nd, 2006

Well I havn’t updated this blog in a while. Been busy getting things done around the house and looking for another job. Caits has been, looking for the venue and seems to have settled on The Hub in Edinburgh at the time being (the website isn’t very good but the printed gumph we got looked lovely) .

The new series of the Apprentice kicks off on BBC2 tonight and one of Caitlins friends and ex-work colleague is a contestant on it. Karen Bremner is her name and its going to be interesting (as Caitlin pointed out) to see how they portray her on the show, as Caitlin knows her we could see how much TV can distort. Anyways just to prove that she is proper famous (or at least will be semi-famous by the end of tonight’s show, she is also on celebdaq which Caitlin tells me is like share dealing but in fictional shares based on famous people and how much media coverage they get (or summit like that). Karen also has a blog and an official website. So good look Karen, we shall all be cheering you on.

ps - i even registered and bought 4000 APP Karen shares on celebdaq :)

Decorating

Posted by tgs on February 1st, 2006

So one week ago I started decorating the house, top bathroom, landing, stairs, hallway, bottom bathroom, living room and kitchen with new flooring in every room mentioned above apart from the kitchen as I really couldn’t face pulling out the heavy mofo washing machine.

It all started well, realised that the bathroom that I thought was gonna take a coat of paint and be finished in a day (maybe even less) ended up taking 3 days. Now I normally overestimate these things so how the hell I got the time scale so wrong I just don’t know. Anyway its all coming together now and the new carpets are getting fitted tomorrow and the the new bathroom flooring is down already.

So as soon as all this is done and I’ve fixed the fence in the back garden that blew down over a year a go ( I say blew down but really ripped from the earth by a foul and vengefull wind god would be more accurate) then it will all be done.

So in summary - decorating sucks, its expensive, time consuming and ultimately will lead to arguments between spouses. However it is a nescesssary evil and I’m glad its nearly done. Although the ending is slipping away as I sit in front of the computer typing this and resisting the urge to load football manager.

I just wish I had the will power to get off me arse and finish the last bits off.

:)

Technorati:

getting there

Posted by tgs on January 15th, 2006

*****UPDATE*****

Well the site should kinda work in ie - it seems that there was a problem with the theme that i leeched this from. As long as its viewable then thast good enough for me. If your still using internet explorer then please consider switching to a browser that works :) .

Well the changes to the site are getting nearer to being usable - although some people are saying that the css is failing - a little bit of testing seems to point towards browsers that are either internet explorer or browsers that identify themselves as IE. So if this is the case then well tough titties. I would fix it if:-

  • i knew enough about this stuff
  • i could be bothered
  • i cared
  • anyone actually read this site

Oh for those that can see the css - how does the header image look??? - still needs tweaking but my photoshop skills are up there with my css skills - ie pretty much non-existent.

another wee pic of ella louise

Posted by tgs on January 12th, 2006

Heres another pic of my new niece.

ps - there is a redesign going on at the moment so stay with me on this, im sure we can pull through! The biggest job to do is designing a header img (yes the ugly one at the top is just a 30second photoshop placeholder). I think i will raid the image library and see what ive got other than that i may actually have to do some work for it - never good.
